Psa 110:1
A Psalm of David. Yahweh said unto my lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
- In psalms with
A psalm of David, David always uses the first person. Therefore,
my lord doesn't refer to David.
- This
lord can be Messiah, an ancestor of David (like Abraham), or even Saul. Without more details, it has to be understood as the greatest lord, which is Messiah.
- The full verse shows the special place of this lord. It is therefore Messiah.
Psa 110:4
Yahweh hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
- The word
priest is כֹּהֵן. It can mean someone of which the occupation is to serve Yahweh. But it also has the meaning of king-priest, since Melchizedek was one. Thus, it better applies to Yeshua, as opposed to Abraham or David.
-
For ever also is more logical with Jesus, as applying it to Abraham or David would require far-fetched interpretations.
